Research Project “Research study on Accessibility of Indian Railways”, 2005
Includes users’ group perspective (over 100 respondents); facilities check of stations, reservation centre and compartment for disabled and recommendations for making Railways accessible. Low cost, tried and tested designs from developing countries and user perspective (disabled persons) and recommendations were forwarded to Research Design Standards Organization (RDSO), Rail Coach Factory (RCF) and Integral Coach Factory (ICF) Ministry of Railways and other concerned departments. Recommendations are under positive considerations.
Samarthyam believes in the policy of co-operation and co-ordination between the user groups and service providers/stake holders. We genuinely extend our deep sense of appreciation for O/o the Chief Commissioner for PwDs for facilitating the Access Audits of the Station and Reservation Centre and the support in providing information on the initiatives by CCPD. We are grateful to Railway officials for their contribution. Samarthyam is currently working on accessible Coaches with toilets and transit/ boarding device with Research Design Standards Organization (RDSO), Rail Coach Factory (RCF) and Integral Coach Factory (ICF), Ministry of Railways, Government of India.
