Advocacy Campaign

Samarthyam has been providing best infrastructure for Research (Catalyst for Change); form & select a team of passionate & dedicated persons (Perform with Passion) since 2001.
In line with our objective, viz. “Promotion of Barrier Free, Rights based Inclusive Society” and promotion & implementation of “United Nation Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD)”, Samarthyam has conducted a number of Advocacy Campaigns over the years.

  • Project Sakshar- Education for All- Samarthyam is Promoting Inclusive Education by improving access to academic institutions: From 2007-09, Samarthyam has conducted access audits of 71 Colleges, 70 Faculties & Departments and 3 external corridors of University of Delhi. Samarthyam has organized access sensitization programmes in schools of Delhi, Port Blair and Rangat (Middle Andaman) and conducted several access audits to make schools universally accessible.
  • Adaptive Environments & Independent Living- Samarthyam is Enabling Inclusion of  persons with disabilities (with focus on severe and multiple disabilities) to facilitate Independent Living and to exude efficiency through home fittings and workstation assistive devices etc., to ensure disabled persons perform at par with others.
  • Disability Equity, Awareness & Simulation Trainings– for professionals and service providers such as architects, engineers, transport planners, urban designers and policy makers to raise awareness on diverse access needs of persons with severe and multiple disabilities.
  • Training programmes for Empowerment of Disabled Persons- Samarthyam believes that every disabled person have ‘samarthya i.e. capability’. For capacity building of persons with disabilities, short term training modules on Disability Equity, Advocacy and Communication skills are undertaken.
  • Training of Trainers – to create resource pool of experts on Universal Design -Technical know how on Access standards of persons with diverse disabilities, Anthropometrics, building and vehicle design, external environment and recreational spaces. These trainings are tailor made to suit needs of service providers & stakeholders, professionals, CBR workers, Anganwadi workers, Special Educators, Mobility Instructors, contractors and disabled persons.
  • Research and Pilot Projects with implementation strategies to provide cost-effective and safe, barrier free environment for persons with disabilities, including severe disabilities. All projects aims at Universal Access and Inclusive Mobility with replicable and sustainable models in rural, semi urban and urban areas.
